Does Harbour Neurology Bulk Bill?

Harbour Neurology is a private billing practice and does not bulk bill.

Can I have a new script?

Please email us if you need a script. If your referral is current, we will send it to you. We’ll let you know if your existing referral has expired. If it has expired, please get in touch with your GP for a new referral and email it to us. We can then help with a new script.

How can I obtain a copy of an invoice or doctor's letter?

Please access your Patient Portal for invoices, test results, and doctor's letters. Please email us and request access to your Patient Portal if you still need access.

I have a question about my medications.

If you have any immediate concerns about your medications or side effects, please see your GP or call reception to make an appointment with your neurologist. If you have a medical emergency, please call 000 and ask for an ambulance. We can not answer questions about medications by email.

Will doctors write a medico-legal report?

The minimum fee for a medico-legal report is $7,000 + GST. 

I am unsure of my medical plan after having my consultation. 

Please visit your online Patient Portal to access your letters and information. If unsure, please book a telehealth consultation with your neurologist.

I cannot log onto the Patient Portal.

Can I email any questions to Dr Mobbs?

Doctors can not respond to emails. If you have questions, please get in touch with our receptionist to book a telehealth consultation.

Do you offer EEGs for seizures/epilepsy?

Yes, we do perform EEGs (electroencephalograms). Before attending an EEG, please ensure your hair is washed clean and free of sprays or gels. If attending a sleep-deprived EEG, please stay awake as much as possible the night before. After the EEG, you may find some glue in your hair. For this reason, please bring a comb or hairbrush.

Why is there a delay in my appointment?

Your appointment may be delayed due to unexpected and urgent medical commitments for other patients. Sometimes, unexpected hospital emergencies arise, or there may be a delay due to clinical care on that day. If this is the case, we will keep you informed as best we can, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. We will provide a prompt and timely new appointment if you need to reschedule.

Is Dr Mobbs available at a private hospital if I need to be hospitalised?

Dr Mobbs is a Visiting Medical Officer at Mater Hospital Sydney and can arrange admission.

Does Harbour Neurology share my medical information?

Harbour Neurology doctors may obtain and share your medical information from or with other medical practitioners, healthcare providers, and My Health Record. Please see our Terms and Conditions.

Will the neurologist see me earlier if I arrive early?

Our neurologists try to stay on schedule with many patients throughout the day and will see you at your appointment time.

Can I book appointments online?

Yes, you can make or rearrange appointments using our Patient Portal. Please email or call us if you do not currently have access to the Patient Portal.

Do you see Workers' Compensation and CTP patients?

Yes, provided your insurer or lawyer has agreed in advance to pay our fee estimate. If your insurer has yet to pre-authorise our fees, the patient must pay the doctor's fee at the appointment and seek reimbursement.

What is the Patient Portal

The Patient Portal lets you update your personal information and access details of your past and future appointments, invoices, test results, and doctor's letters. Please email us and request access to your Patient Portal if you still need access. Please see this guide for further information.

I need to cancel or rearrange my appointment

Are the new Alzheimer’s medications available? 

The new Alzheimer's anti-amyloid medications (Aducanumab, Lercanumab) are not yet available in Australia. If they become available and you wish to be considered, please book an appointment to discuss with Dr Mobbs.

I am worried about a loved one with agitation from dementia. What should I do? 

Please consider your emergency options, including the Acute Mental Health service, a hospital emergency department, domestic and family violence services, or the police. For non-emergencies, please consider seeing your GP or booking an appointment with Dr Mobbs.

I have previously seen a Harbour Neurology doctor. Do I need a new referral?

GP referrals last 12 months, and specialist referrals last three months. If your previous referral has expired, you will need a new one. Please contact our receptionist to confirm. 

I have an official document for Dr Mobbs to complete, such as Fitness to Drive, Centrelink, and NDIS. Can she assist?

Doctors can not respond to email requests. Please contact our receptionist to book a telehealth consultation if you need an official document completed.

Do you offer neuropsychology and neurocognitive testing?

Yes, we have a team of neuropsychologists who can assist in specialist cognitive testing. However, you must have seen a neurologist recently before having neuropsychology testing.

Do you offer nerve conduction studies / EMG?

Unfortunately, we do not offer this service at this time.

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

Yes. Late cancellations deprive other patients of timely access to specialist medical services.

What is a neurologist?

Neurology is the branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats conditions involving the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. A neurologist is a physician trained to investigate, diagnose and treat neurological disorders that affect cognition, memory, thinking, movement, and behaviour.

Do I need a referral?

Yes, you do need a referral. Best practice medical care is a partnership between your GP and specialists. Referrals are vital to ensure that all doctors are fully informed of your medical history and ongoing care requirements. GP referrals are valid for 12 months, and specialist referrals for three months. Without a referral, you are not entitled to a Medicare rebate. Remember, a GP referral needs to be renewed annually.

If I have a side effect, should I stop my medication? 

If you have any immediate concerns about your medications or side effects, please see your GP or call reception to make an appointment with your neurologist. If you have a medical emergency, please call 000 and ask for an ambulance.

How can I obtain a copy of my test results and doctor's letters?

Please access your Patient Portal for invoices, test results, and doctor's letters. Please email us and request access to your Patient Portal if you still need access.

Must I use the Patient Portal?

The Patient Portal is optional. However, if you use it, you can immediately access your invoices, medical test results and doctor's letters. We may charge a fee if you need us to send your information to a third party, such as an insurer or lawyer.

I feel sick with a cold or flu but don’t want to miss my appointment. Should I attend? 

Please only attend in person if you are well. We have elderly patients at our premises who are vulnerable to infections, including flu or COVID-19. Please call or email to inform our reception that you are unwell. We can easily change your appointment to a telehealth phone call. If you are too unwell and wish to reschedule, we will ensure you can receive a prompt new appointment. If you are recovering from a COVID-19 infection and unsure if you are still contagious, please switch to telehealth or delay your appointment. If you have a post-viral cough, please wear a mask when arriving at our clinic and attending your appointment.

My medical letter needs a correction. What should I do? 

Please email our reception, and it will be revised.

I have severe headaches/migraine, including headaches after Botox therapy for migraine. What should I do?

If your usual medication plan has not assisted, consider the need for emergency care. Consider seeing your GP, or if needed, please book a same-day telehealth appointment with Dr Mobbs.

What is a neurologist, and what can they assist with?

A neurologist is a physician trained in diagnosing and managing non-surgical neurological disorders. Dr Mobbs is a sports and cognitive neurologist with specialist training in all types of dementia, including CTE, headache, migraine, concussion and other traumatic brain injury. 

Do you offer Botox therapy?

Yes, we offer Botox therapy for a range of conditions, including chronic migraine, hyperhidrosis (excess sweating) and blepharospasm.

Should I bring my old brain scans?

Please email or bring any previous brain scans, including MRI, CT or PET imaging, to your appointment. If many scans have been performed and are difficult to transport, please bring the most recent two.

Can I have a brain scan before my appointment?

Patients will routinely be assessed on the initial appointment before arranging any brain scans as indicated. 

How can I pay for an appointment?

Harbour Neurology accepts payment by credit cards, debit cards and bank transfers. We do not accept cash or cheques.

Can I bring a family member to an appointment?

Yes, family members are always welcome. We recommend that family members attend if the patient has been referred for memory problems, cognition, or dementia.
